Hatha yoga is a traditional branch of yoga that focuses on physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and sometimes meditation to promote balance between body and mind.
The word “Hatha” comes from Sanskrit:
“Ha” meaning sun and “Tha” meaning moon, symbolizing the union of opposites—strength and flexibility, effort and relaxation.
Gentle and Slow-Paced: Ideal for beginners because it emphasizes holding poses and moving mindfully.
Physical Postures (Asanas): Improves strength, flexibility, and alignment.
Breath Control (Pranayama): Encourages deep, conscious breathing to calm the nervous system.
Mindfulness: Often includes short meditation or relaxation at the end (Savasana).
Goal: To prepare the body and mind for deeper spiritual practices by creating harmony and reducing stress.
