Here is Lynsey’s story.

Eighteen months ago, I first came to Shekinah to support a friend, but what I discovered was far more meaningful than I had ever expected. As I took part in the courses, I began to truly enjoy the experience and, most importantly, learned a great deal about myself.

Living with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) has meant that I’ve faced ongoing challenges with my mental health. However, through Shekinah’s courses, I developed a deeper emotional awareness and found a sense of structure in my life that I had been missing for a long time. It became a safe and welcoming space where I felt comfortable enough to express myself in ways I never had before.

One of the most impactful aspects of my journey has been the support from the Shekinah team. They consistently recognised and celebrated even the smallest achievements – something I had never experienced growing up. That encouragement made a huge difference to my confidence and self-worth.

After completing my courses, I felt uncertain about what would come next. I worried about losing the structure and confidence I had built. However, I was given the opportunity to volunteer with the very team who had supported me throughout my journey. This was a turning point, allowing me to continue growing in a familiar and encouraging environment.

Today, I am proud to be working as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) at Shekinah. Looking back, I can see just how far I’ve come – and it’s something I’m incredibly proud of. My journey is a testament to the power of support, encouragement, and believing in the small steps that lead to big change.
