Here is Melody’s story.
My journey hasn’t been easy, but it has shaped me into the person I am today.
At 19, I found myself pregnant and living in supported accommodation. It was overwhelming and life-changing, but with the support I received, I began to build strength and resilience during one of the hardest times in my life.
After this, my life took a difficult turn and I struggled with addiction for two years. My mental and physical health declined, and I felt completely lost, unsure how to rebuild my life.
Everything began to change when I found Shekinah and Harbour. For the first time in a long time, I felt supported, understood, and hopeful. I started focusing on my recovery, personal growth, and creating a better future for myself and my daughter.
With their support, I committed to training, courses, and volunteering. I stayed consistent and kept showing up, even on the tough days. After about a year, my hard work led to an incredible opportunity – I became a Complex Needs Support Worker at George House.
This role means so much to me because of my lived experience. I understand the challenges many people face, and I can offer genuine empathy, support, and encouragement to those going through similar struggles.
Today, I am in the best place I have ever been, both mentally and physically. My daughter is thriving, and being someone she can look up to is one of my greatest achievements.
Shekinah and Harbour gave me more than skills – they gave me confidence, purpose, and belief in myself. They helped me see that my past does not define my future.
My story is proof that no matter how lost someone may feel, there is always hope, always support, and always a way forward.
