Story

I’ve decided to walk 17 miles, which is approximately 16.5 miles more than I usually walk in a day. My Fitbit is already stressed and I haven’t even started. And yet… here we are.

The official challenge is 34 miles, but let’s be honest: I would’ve needed rescuing by lunchtime. So I’m taking on the half‑route – still a heroic distance for someone whose lifestyle can be summarised as: works from home, owns no dog, and has two cats who not only walk themselves but also judge me for even considering physical activity.

My last real workout was moving house and currently surviving a full refurbishment, which absolutely should qualify as an extreme sport. If lifting paint tins and stripping old paint off every piece of wood in the house counted as training, I’d be unstoppable.

But this Saturday, 20th of June, at a time of the morning that should frankly be illegal, I’ll be joining Be:Unique for their Sunrise to Sunset walk – wobbling, sweating, snack‑stopping, and probably questioning all my life choices – to raise money for a charity I’m incredibly proud to work for: Shekinah.

Shekinah supports people in Plymouth and Torbay through some of the toughest moments of their lives. The work is real, it’s needed, and it changes futures. So even though my legs may never forgive me, I want to do something that helps keep that support going.

My goal is to raise £150. Every pound genuinely helps – and also provides emotional support for me when I inevitably hit mile 12 and start bargaining with the universe.

Thank you so much for donating, cheering me on, or simply enjoying the chaos of me attempting to be an “outdoorsy” person. I’ll be sharing updates, photos, and probably a lot of dramatic commentary along the way.

Let’s do this – slowly, snack‑frequently, and with the quiet hope that the finish line appears sooner than expected.
