Two Years at Stonehouse Creek: A Reflection

It’s hard to believe that two years have already passed since we opened the doors at Stonehouse Creek. In some ways it feels like we’ve been part of this community forever, and in others it still feels new, fresh, and full of possibilities. Anniversaries offer us a moment to pause, not just to look back at what has been achieved, but to reflect on the people, stories, and relationships that have shaped the journey.

When we moved into Stonehouse Creek, we knew the location had huge potential: a place rooted in the community, accessible, welcoming, and full of character. But buildings don’t change people’s lives, relationships do. And over the past two years, it’s been the daily interactions, shared challenges, laughter, setbacks, and breakthroughs that have truly defined our time here.

A Space That Has Grown With Us

What started as a new base has evolved into a genuinely vibrant hub. We’ve seen people walk through the doors on some of the hardest days of their lives, unsure of what to expect. We’ve also watched those same individuals return weeks or months later with confidence, stability, purpose, and hope. Stonehouse Creek has become a place where people feel safe enough to share their stories and supported enough to imagine new chapters.

The kitchen, the learning spaces, the quiet rooms, the community areas, each has taken on a life of its own. They’ve hosted conversations that matter, meals that bring people together, training sessions that open doors, and moments of connection that remind us why this work is so important.

Partnerships at the Heart of Everything

None of this happens in isolation. Our partnerships, longstanding and newly formed have played a major role in shaping what Stonehouse Creek has become. From health colleagues and support agencies to volunteers, funders, and local organisations, the combined effort has created something much greater than the sum of its parts.

The sense of shared mission across Plymouth has never felt stronger. When people pull together around a common purpose, supporting those experiencing homelessness, crisis, and poverty, real change becomes possible.

What We’ve Learned Along the Way

Two years here have reinforced a few things:

  • People thrive in environments where they feel seen, valued, safe and welcomed.
  • Small acts of kindness and consistency add up to meaningful change.
  • Communities flourish when organisations work side by side rather than in silos.
  • Hope is powerful, but it grows best when supported with practical help, compassion, and opportunity.

Most importantly, being at Stonehouse Creek has reminded us daily of the strength, resilience, and potential of the people we walk alongside. Their courage is what inspires us to keep improving, keep listening, and keep showing up.

Looking Ahead

Anniversaries aren’t just about looking back, they’re about looking forward with renewed energy. Stonehouse Creek still has so much potential. Over the coming year, we’ll continue to strengthen our services, deepen our partnerships, and ensure this space remains one where people feel able to rebuild, recover, and reconnect.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last two years, staff, volunteers, partners, funders, and of course the people who come through our doors every day. You have shaped this place far more than the bricks and mortar ever could.

Here’s to the next chapter at Stonehouse Creek, one grounded in compassion, community, and the belief that everyone deserves a place to belong.
