Jimmy’s Story: A Journey of Strength, Hope and New Beginnings
Jimmy first came to Shekinah’s drop‑in centre on Bath Street as a teenager. Homeless on and off from the age of 17, life was often unstable, exhausting and unpredictable. But even during the hardest years, Jimmy remembers one constant – the team at Shekinah never stopped believing in him.
He describes how staff always saw his potential, even when he couldn’t see it himself. Their encouragement, patience and positivity stayed with him, becoming the spark that pushed him to make changes for the better.
Today, Jimmy is proud to share how far he has come.
He is clean and sober. He is a father to a beautiful daughter. And he is in the strongest, most stable position he has been in for a very long time.
Jimmy reached out recently to say thank you – not for one moment, but for every moment Shekinah stood by him when he was homeless. He says he is “eternally grateful” and hopes his story inspires others who may be facing similar challenges.
His message to the team was simple but powerful: “Thank you for everything you ever did for me. Your amazing work continues to affect people in such a positive way – just like it has me.”
Jimmy’s journey is a reminder that change is possible, hope is real, and with the right support, people can rebuild their lives and thrive.
